2022 Cancer Biology Annual Retreat

The Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Texas Southwestern and Mays Cancer Center at the University of Texas Health San Antonio co-hosted the 18th annual national Cancer Biology Retreat October 21 through 23 in San Antonio, Texas at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort.

The Retreat attracted faculty and administrators for cancer research education and training from member institutions across the country. In attendance were 109 representatives from 61 institutions, plus 36 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The National Cancer Center (NCI) presented information from their training branch and cancer centers offices on various awards. Dr. Josh Mendell, professor at University of Texas Southwestern, gave the welcome keynote address Friday evening and Dr. Avery August, professor at Cornell University, gave the diversity keynote address the following morning.

Ms. Michelle Barbeau, graduate student at the University Of Virginia, and Dr. Debashri Manna, postdoctoral fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University, were awarded top poster presenters.

Drs. Robin Leach and Rolf Brekken, along with Mmes. Eva Garcia-Rodriguez and Julie Ramos, were instrumental in the planning and facilitation of the meeting.

Next year’s Retreat will be in Newport Beach, California October 22-24.
